You may find less expensive scope services, but you will not find better than Parsons. Re: unertl repair Reply 1 - Mar 14 that pm. Have I missed other good or better repair services?Īre these folks good? Thanks Jim. The shipper was wise enough to take pics of the scope including a shot through the lens which shows crosshairs intact. If the cross hairs appear to move with the scope held very steady, the scope is not in focus.Moderator Group: Moderator. Now look through the scope at a target or image positioned at the range you intend to shoot. If the sleeve does not move easily, the two screws may be binding slightly due to age and dried lubricant. To adjust the focus loosen one of the locking rings and tighten the other, moving the center sleeve. The two screws prevent the sleeve from rotating and connect the sleeve to a sliding housing inside the scope tube. The center sliding sleeve does not rotate, but slides fore and aft. The center sliding sleeve has separate locking rings on both ends. The next step is to bring the scope image into sharp focus at the intended shooting distance. Lock the eyepiece in place and proceed to focus the scope image. Now, prior to adjusting anything else, It's a good idea to loosen the eyepiece lock ring and, with the scope aimed at a moderately bright defused light source the sky is greatadjust the eyepiece to optimize the image of the crosshairs. In the type of scopes this article discusses, crosshair reticles are by far the most common. There are post reticles, dot reticles, circular reticles, and many other forms of reticles. I was gonna suggest maybe unwrapping a few coils of coated magnet wire from an old junk radio RF coil.TexasMac's Web Site. Most tool and die shops would likely be glad to give you a couple of feet. Sounds like you've got it, Craig, but EDM wire is definitely what you want if you're just searching around the area. THey sell the used wire for scrap but I'm sure they'd give a foot or two for nothing. Another option, stop by a machine shop and ask if they have a Wire EDM. I have enough to blow out a few thousand scopes. They're too big to carry around, but holler if you need a source. We keep tanks of nitrogen to pressurize transmission lines and waveguides. How do you get the Nitrogen back in the scope so it doesn't fog? Installing the little windshied wipers after it's full of humid air is pretty tedious, though. They are not as dangerous as you might think timid, can't punch thru good clothing, and not really agressive but if you do get bitten it can get very ugly in a hurry. Hehe I think any spider web would do, but for some reason that stuck in my head as the one they used as it was finer, thinner maybe? If you try it, be careful. I can imagine it would be a challenge to replace. I always just thought it was painted on or something. I wouldn't want the job of trying to get it in there straight though. I know an old fella who replaced his with a hair from his grand daughter. It's ' but I doubt you find a smaller spool of such a fine wire. I think that is what older scopes used? Also I'm sure you probably searched but this came up in the first few links. I'm too cheap to send this off to someone else when it looks like I can do the repair myself. I've got an old Redfield 12x that a fella gave me and it has broken crosshairs.
